2005 Kawasaki 636 Original Owner 944 Miles $$$$$
THE GEN 2 636 ZX6R. Raw. Refined. Usable real-world power. Superior mid-range torque. Advanced technology. This is the bike that cemented the legacy of the 636 as the first true “street-focused” middleweight supersport. And it forced the industry to reconsider what a middleweight bike could be.
Offered is a ‘time capsule’, first year of the 2nd Gen 636, as new 2005 Kawasaki ZX6R 636 with only 944 miles.
This is a very very quick bike that looks and feels stellar!
There surely is not another example in this condition and mileage in the country (or few of any sportbike). The new owner can be the first registered owner. All original parts are with the bike. Thousands of dollars of pro parts to sell if returned to 100% factory original.

Original Owner History
I purchased this bike new when I lived and worked in family construction across Ohio, Nevada and California. I wanted to replicate an AMA supersport bike to ride to AMA/WSBK/MOTOGP races. I took Ohio delivery for this purpose. I authorized Honda East (the selling dealer) to customize it to replicate a race bike while maintaining its street legal status before the bike was delivered.
Unfortunately, I never got to use the bike as intended. In 2008 I left Ohio and by that time, I had quietly put 9xx dry weather miles on it in small selective rides using plates from another street bike I owned. I have ended up moving quite a few times over the years but never registered it in any state. I ultimately did move the bike to California where it has been in storage since 2013. I had considered California registration at one point and purchased an 8,494 miles speedometer (compatible unit from 03/04 model). It is being sold on an Ohio title.

It also comes with a lot of spare parts not all of which go with this motorcycle as I had several bikes at the time including a 2003 636 ZX-6R on which I had installed some pro parts. As I am not 100% sure the source of these part’s I am including everything. Also includes a new Attack Performance clutch lever to replace the scratched one installed by Honda East.
Full Disclosure Aesthetics
It was moved a fair number of times from Ohio to Nevada to California and between different storages so unfortunately there is some minor light cosmetic transport and storage wear and tear. Also the ‘Kawasaki’ sticker on the interior of the windscreen peeled off. I do not have specific recollection of how or when these occurred over my 20 years of ownership.
About The 2nd Generation 636
This is the second generation of the original legendary Kawasaki 636 ZX6R. The completely revised 2005 model has more than 150 new part numbers from the first generation 636 (which I have also owned). This is a much superior motorcycle to Gen 1.
The 2nd Gen 636 was in many ways a whole new motorcycle. At the time the 2nd Gen 636 was considered the most perfect mid-range sport bike on the market offering big-bike performance in a Supersport package. Along with its racing-homologated sibling, the ZX-6RR, the new 636 was the most aerodynamically efficient Sportbike Kawasaki has ever created – even more streamlined than the leading-edge ZX-10R. Simply put the 2nd Gen was much faster, better handling, better stopping, and better looking than 1st Gen, all in a more comfortable bike.
Here all the of many significant changes upgrading the Gen 2 636 from the Gen 1 636:
– The 2nd Gen ZX-6R 636 engine speed increased by 1,000 RPM resulting in 131 hp (98 kW) at 12,250 RPM.
– New cylinder head design locates each pair of intake/exhaust valves farther apart for improved breathing and higher combustion efficiency.
– New pistons with reshaped crowns and improved, low-friction skirt profiles. The extremely narrow included valve angle of 25 degree allows the fitting of large valves in a compact, highly efficient combustion chamber. The breathing passageways, one located between each pair of cylinders, contributes to effective crankcase breathing, which reduces pumping loss.
– Larger intake and exhaust valves, revised cam profiles and an exhaust valve integrated with the muffler improving low and mid-range response.
– New dual-injector fuel injection system now uses fine atomizing injectors for the main injectors and features a set of secondary injectors located in the airbox for improved cylinder filling, crisper throttle response and higher power output.
– Fully redesigned Ram Air with centrally located Ram Air duct.
– New oval-shaped sub-throttle technology when combined with the improved Ram Air design increases airflow without making the fuel delivery assembly wider – intake efficiency is improved nearly 20 percent.
– New under-seat exhaust system with integrated exhaust valve improves low- and mid-range engine performance.
– Upgraded engine control unit now has more memory for controlling the exhaust valve and second set of fuel injectors.
– Increased oil pump width and changed drive ratio to reduce its rpm. Deeper oil sump lowers the oil level for reduced windage losses.
– The crankshaft has been strengthened to reduce flexing and now features larger diameter main journals (from 30mm to 31mm), and the crank has been re-balanced for smoother running.
– Thicker castings used for the engine cases improve engine rigidity and reduce vibration and feature improved lubrication.
– The new lower case has separate mounting bosses for the oil filter and oil cooler.
– New aluminum oil cooler improves cooling efficiency.
– Aluminum radiator is 40mm taller and features more-tightly packed cores for increased cooling capacity.
– More durable and smoother-shifting six-speed transmission includes a taller third gear ratio.
– New multi-disc wet clutch now with integrated back-torque limiter (slipper clutch).
– New auto-fast-idle system improves starting.
– New frame design.
– New longer GP-style aluminum swingarm with shortened wheelbase combined with swingarm pivot point moved forward substantially improve cornering performance
– New radial-mount Tokico Petal-style front calipers, four-piston on 300mm front discs featuring four independent brake pads are used – one for each piston – provides more even wear and improved heat resistance.
– New five way adjustable radial piston front brake master cylinder uses direct action for better rider feedback.
– 220mm rear disc brake caliper now mounts directly to the swingarm, negating the need for an independent brake tie-rod.
– New fully adjustable Showa inverted 41mm upside-down forks with a new surface coating technology to reduce stiction.
– New fully adjustable gas charged rear shock with UNI-TRAK® linkage ratios for more linear action and new shock settings.
– New lighter six-spoke wheels.
– New ultra-aerodynamic fairings and bodywork with integrated lighting. The seat now angles back and the bars are closer to the rider due to a more pulled back steering head.
– New gas tank design with split-seam fuel tank/airbox cover centralizing the fuel mass near the center of the bike.
– Improved racing-style instrument panel features a bar-type LCD tachometer, digital LCD speedometer, stopwatch-style lap timer and adjustable shift indicator lamp, which includes Off, Low and Bright settings. A digital temperature gauge, clock and tripmeter.
